The township is governed by a three-member board of trustees, who are elected in November of odd-numbered years to a four-year term beginning on the following January 1.
Athens Township is one of the fourteen townships of Athens County, Ohio and 1,308 in the State of Ohio.

Sealed bids for the 2025 ATHENS TOWNSHIP CHIP/FOG SEAL PROGRAM will be received by the Athens Township Board of Trustees, Athens County, Ohio, at the Township Hall, 313 W. Union St, Athens, Ohio 45701 until 5:30 p.m. on June 10, 2025 and at that time and place will be opened and publicly read aloud.

An award may be made at the subsequent meeting of the Board or the Board may waive any formalities as may be in the best interest of Athens Township and award the contract the evening of opening.
All bids, accepted or rejected, will be considered valid until sixty (60) days after the opening date. Bids may be mailed but must be received by the 5:30 pm deadline.

In Athens Township, trustees are responsible for managing the township’s affairs, including overseeing roads, fire and police protection, cemeteries, parks and recreation, zoning, and waste disposal, as well as managing the township budget and assets.
